Chapter 36: It is good to be home

One year ago we were in Charleston, South Carolina. It was hard spending the holidays away from family so we decided that moving forward, whenever possible, we want to be intentional about being home.

We returned to Minnesota on November 20th after a lovely week in the Azores and a few days visiting friends in Boston. Being home has been good for the soul.

This visit feels better than when we were home in May. Obviously seeing friends and family was wonderful, and it felt overshadowed by the stress of having to find new tenants, several doctors appointments-including my first colonoscopy which meant being put under for the first time since my bilateral mastectomy, and everything else that comes with preparing for being in Europe for the next five plus months.

This time our tenants are happy and well and there aren’t as many doctors appointments which is a nice change. The appointment I needed to have was with the travel doctor in preparation for our next leg of the adventure set to take place in Mexico, South America and Central America.

On December 28th, after spending Christmas in both Oconomowoc to see Dave’s family, and Woodbury to celebrate with mine, we leave for New Mexico. After loving our time there so much last year we decided we wanted to go back before we traveled further south. So far we have planned through March. After New Mexico we will go to Mexico City for a couple of weeks, then Santiago, Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Patagonia. The plan is to be gone until the end of June/ beginning of July. The only country in South America that we have visited was Peru back in 2018, so we’re excited to explore more countries we haven’t been to, and I’m excited to work on my Spanish.

Wherever you are, whatever your traditions may be, I hope this season brings you joy and happiness. Tell your people you love them, make it weird. Hug your loved ones. Sending you love wherever you are!
