There’s a saying I’ve heard several times that goes something like, “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” This saying reminds me to try and continue to stay as intentional and present as possible everyday, because you never know what tomorrow may bring.
I had a lot of emotions yesterday coming off of five amazing days with my mom and sisters. This was my first time seeing them since we started our adventure two and a half months ago.
I’m happy that we’re taking advantage of the time while we’re in North America because who knows how much we’ll be able to see each other once we go abroad. I’m so thankful for their willingness to make the time, when everyone’s lives are so busy, to see me.
And, it was hard to say goodbye. Needless to say I shed many tears.
I feel like my emotions were amplified by the fact that our friend entered hospice yesterday as well. Yet another reminder to live life while you have it and don’t take anything for granted.
I’m also so thankful to everyone who has opened their homes and their lives to us in the past few weeks since we left Plymouth, Massachusetts. It has been amazing to see our people!
First in New York where we stayed with two close friends in the Bronx. It was awesome to have a laissez-faire attitude there because I was just there in April. It was a welcomed break from the desire to see and do it all, that visiting a place for the first time brings. Although that is the point, isn’t it? It allowed me to experience some things I hadn’t before like the view of Manhattan from DUMBO, which I learned stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, and walking across the Williamsburg Bridge.
Then in DC where we stayed at an Air BnB in the Petworth neighborhood. It was nice to be able to have some quality time with our friend who is in grad school there. I had only been to DC one other time as a child. It was fun to visit it as an adult and especially cool at night! I did several things there for the first time, for example, District Wharf, The National Museum of African American History and Culture, The National Portrait Gallery, dinner at Old Ebbitt and drinks on the rooftop of Hotel Washington, to name a few.
Now we’re in Durham, North Carolina, where Dave already was. We’re staying with friends in Durham, and then we’re heading to Asheville for the weekend to celebrate Dave’s birthday, before we begin our month in Charleston, South Carolina.
I have said it before, and I know those of you who know me know I have a tendency to repeat myself, so I’ll say it again, our circle is amazing! I know that wherever we end up on this adventure they will be there for us, in whatever capacity they are able, to cheer us on and carry us through. And our wish is to do the same in return! We are very lucky. ❤️
