Chapter 7: Solo exploring

Today there wasn’t rain in the forecast for the first time in a couple days. So, while Dave went and did his thing at his colocation spot, I went out of the city and explored. We weren’t able to see everything we wanted to see when we went to Montmorency Falls and Ile D’Orleans on Saturday so I returned to that beautiful area to explore more.

I started in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre and visited the Sanctuaire (Church). It was truly beautiful, free and worth the stop. It was hard to figure out which pictures to share because there were so many good ones. There were barely any people there, the area outside of it was peaceful with the fountain and it was the perfect way to start the day.

Then I made my way to Canyon Saint-Anne which was absolutely spectacular with the cascades and trees. I can’t even imagine how brilliant it would be if it was peak fall colors! There was a good route around the canyon and lots of bridges and viewpoints.  Side note, I feel like I’m hesitating with my words a little bit and it might come out weird because I’m translating from French to English. Which I understand sounds a little wonky after only a week and a half but it’s a thing. 🙂

After that I drove to Mount Saint Anne and saw the ski hill, again imagining how gangbusters it must be in peak season. It was fun to see the runs and I don’t think my view spot did it justice.  I just love that all this beauty is only a 30min drive from where we are staying.

Then I returned to Ile D’Orleans because there was one winery that I still wanted to visit, and Dave learned from his friends at the colocation spot that the gigantic line we saw on Saturday was supposedly for the best poutine in Quebec, so I needed to give it a try. I made it to Vignoble Isle de Bacchus and then to Chez Mag, La Fine Cantine for poutine. I waited about 40 min, I’ve heard it can be up to two hours on the weekends, and chose La Speciale Du Chef which had wild mushrooms and truffle oil. It was delicious and I would have never waited two hours for it. And it is about the experience.

I am really going to miss Quebec City and I’m so thankful that this is where we chose to start this chapter of our adventure. We head to Brewer, Maine on Saturday for a month and I’m excited to see what beauty there is to behold there. We chose our location because of its proximity to Acadia National Park, which we have never been to, and are hoping to peep some fall color.

I hope everyone is doing well where they are. I miss you, love you and can’t wait to have visitors soon! 😉
